Paniewo lake is almost perfectly oval-shaped. Its maximum depth is 12,5 m. In the west the lake connects with the Krzywe lake. Its lakesides are mostly overgrown by the Augustów Primeval Forest. The lake is rather small and contains few sandy beaches. Water of the lake is warm and the surrounding forest protects it from the wind.
