Wisents in the Augustów Primeval Forest
In 2012 the new project started. Its goal was to return the wisents to the Augustów Primeval Forest where they were absent for almost 200 years. After 5 years of preparation, four wisents appear there. Currently the terrain of Augustów Primeval Forest is inhabited by 17 of them. Each year there are more and more wisents there, which was possible thanks to the realization of many international projects to protect these beautiful, proud animals. In 2018 the first cub was born. His name is Balinka, he was born healthy and strong, while his peer, named Śmiały was incredibly brave since his first days. There should be 50 wisents here, as a target.
